Brit boxer Khan to help Hatton fight drugs, drinks abuse

London , Mon, 20 Sep 2010 ANI

London, Sep 20 (ANI): WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan is ready to help his friend Ricky Hatton in his biggest fight against both drugs and drinks.

Khan has been shocked to see Hatton end up in a clinic battling depression as well as his addictions, The Sun reports.

Khan, who defends his title against Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas on December 11, has talked recently about meeting former world champion Hatton in the ring.

He said: "Ricky is a very good friend of mine. I am here to give him any help he needs and I hope he gets over his problems soon."

But Hatton has confirmed he will never wear boxing gloves, ditching the idea of a rematch against Manny Pacquiao.

"I know I am never going to fight again but I know I have to fight this battle and win. I need to move on and find something else in my life, whether it be golf or fishing. I feel great shame but I know I can get myself back on track," The Sun quoted Hatton, as saying.

One difficulty Hatton is facing is that he is refusing to admit he has a problem with drinks, and insists that the cocaine he was caught taking had no effect on him.

He claims he is simply depressed and has blamed 'blackouts' for his drug-taking, the paper reports. (ANI)
