Period thriller 'to explore mysterious death of royal spy'

London , Sun, 19 Sep 2010 ANI

London, Sep 19 (ANI): The mysterious death of Christopher Marlowe is set to become the subject of a new British film.

Starring Sam Riley as the legendary 16th century dramatist, the film is based on the late Anthony Burgess's novel, 'A Dead Man In Deptford'.

The movie will portray Marlowe as a royal spy for Elizabeth I.

It will suggest that his death in a tavern brawl in Deptford at the age of 29 was an assassination ordered by the English secret service.

"It's a period thriller with a fascinating, conflicted character who wrote some of the greatest plays in the English language," the Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

The shoot will start early next year with a cast that also includes Ray Winstone and James Purefoy. (ANI)
