Karachi, Sept 19 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected new allegations of spot-fixing, following the team's 23-run win in the third one-dayer against England, as "sensationalism."
"PCB condemns sensationalizing of these allegations which are harming cricket in general and Pakistan in particular," The News quoted PCB, as saying in a statement.
The board also said it was "extremely perturbed by the recent allegations of corruption in the third one-day match between England and Pakistan," and that it "regrets" that the International Cricket Council was investigating into the latest allegations.
Accusing the ICC of mishandling the latest incident, PCB said that despite being a full member of the ICC, it had learnt only through media reports that the council would conduct an inquiry.
"PCB feels that ICC should repose more confidence in its members," added the statement.
The board had requested the ICC through its counsel to furnish more details into these allegations, the statement further said, adding, "PCB maintains a zero tolerance approach towards corruption and will continue to provide all assistance in the investigations."
Meanwhile, the ICC has said the latest probe was based on information provided by a tabloid, that suggested "a certain scoring pattern" would be seen in Pakistan's innings at The Oval, as arranged with bookmakers.
"Following information received by the ICC from a British newspaper and its source, the ICC now believes a full investigation is warranted," the ICC statement read.
Pakistan one-day captain Shahid Afridi dismissed the allegations, saying they were "an attempt to put pressure on the team." (ANI)
