Sydney, Sept.19 (ANI): Upcoming Australian left-arm fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of Australia's tour of India because of a lower back injury.
The New South Wales quick has developed the early stages of a low back bone stress injury, according to a press release from Cricket Australia.
The Sydney Morning Herald quoted National Selection Panel (NSP) sources as saying that Blues teammate Mitchell Starc and Victorian James Pattinson have been roped in as standby players for the tour.
The first Test against India begins on October 1 in Mohali.
Pattinson is currently with the Victorian squad playing in the Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa and will remain with the Bushrangers until their finals aspirations are determined.
"The injury to Josh is obviously very disappointing as he is one of the young fast bowlers we have identified as having an important role of to play in Australia's future," chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said.
Team physio Alex Kountouris said he would require a rest from bowling "to allow the bone stress to resolve." (ANI)
