New York, Sep 11(ANI): World No. 3 Kim Clijsters will play Russia's Vera Zvonareva in Saturday's US Open final at Flushing Meadows.
Clijsters, who is also the defending champion, overcame a gritty Venus Williams 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 on Friday, while Zvonareva earned her way top the final with a facile 6-4, 6-3 victory over top-seed Caroline Wozniacki.
Talking about her performance so far in the tournament, Clijsters said that she enjoys the fast hardcourts and the extremely windy conditions that make playing at Arthur Ashe Stadium difficult.
"It means a lot to be in the final and give myself a chance to defend my title from last year," The New York Times quoted Clijsters, as saying.
"Beating Venus this year and last year, it's a good feeling. This was the best match I've played in this tournament. I raised my level and that's what I'm most pleased about," she added.
Meanwhile, Zvonareva would be playing her second Grand Slam final this season.
The 26-year-old had earlier made it to the Wimbledon, where she lost to Serena Williams.
"It was a great experience for me, being in the Wimbledon final, but that is in the past. I'm trying to look forward," Zvonareva said.
"I always believe in myself. I always believe I can beat anyone on the other side of the net if I play my best tennis. I know I'm not going to play perfect tennis all the time," she added. (ANI)
