London, Sep 7(ANI): England striker Wayne Rooney has assured manager Fabio Capello that he would be focused and would not let his controversial private life affect his performance during tonight's Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland.
According to reports, Rooney had a brief chat Capello onboard the flight from Luton airport.
The England manager and his advisers had been concerned over whether Rooney would be mentally fit to play in the game.
However, Capello is now confident that they would not have to make a call on his suitability.
"I've spoken to him. [It was about] private things. He will play. I monitored him during the training. He was good. He's focused on the game," The Independent quoted Capello, as saying.
"I think during this period, when he was on the pitch, he forgot any problems he has," he added.
Capello has also declared that Rooney's private life is an entirely separate matter to his responsibilities on the pitch.
"Look, you have to separate, to divide, at different moments the private life and the job. You have to be strong to divide the two," Capello said.
"You have to do the job really well, and find solutions to the problems [at home]. They are two different things. My job is the first part. The other part is his problem," he added. (ANI)
