ICC to probe 'suspicious' Sydney Test, Kamran Akmal prime suspect

London, Tue, 07 Sep 2010 ANI

London, Sep 7(ANI): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has re-opened the controversial 'Sydney Test' case, and Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal is believed to be their primary suspect.

According to reports, the ICC has sent an official notice to Akmal saying that he is under investigation for fixing the Test against Australia.

It comes only months after the ICC cleared the Pakistan team of any wrongdoing in relation to the controversial Test, The Courier Mail reports.

Akmal had dropped four catches in Australia's miraculous come-from-behind 36-run win.

Earlier, Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed had reportedly confirmed that the Test was rigged, and players involved in the corruption had pocketed an astonishing three million dollars.

The Pakistan team is already under investigation over the Lord's Test 'spot-fixing' scam following which captain Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif have been suspended by the ICC.

The trio has however claimed that the money given to them by London-based agent Mazhar Majeed was sponsorship money, not a corrupt pay-off.(ANI)
