Amethi (Uttar Pradesh), Sep 2 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi launched a mass plantation drive to enhance productivity of his constituency during his three-day visit to Amethi.
He evaluated a number of public welfare schemes, and came up with the idea of mass plantation and the productivity enhancement.
He inaugurated the programme by planting a tree at one of the villages.
Rahul Gandhi said that India is divided into two parts, between the rich and poor, and hence he has undertaken numerous public welfare projects to bridge the gap.
"In India, there is only one difference between poor and rich. Rich people get opportunities and those who live in villages, who are backward, don't get a chance. So, we always try that whatever project we undertake, it bridges the gap between the two different Indias and once again we unite and become one single developed country," said Rahul Gandhi.
He mentioned that the only way of helping poor people develop is by providing them a gateway to be linked with the other sections of the society.
The women of the village welcomed Rahul Gandhi by tying Rakhis on his wrist on the occasion of Janmashtami.
"We tied Rakhi to Rahul on the occasion of 'Janmashtami' and we applied kumkum on his forehead and sang songs," said Janaki Devi, a villager.
During the three-day tour, Rahul will meet party workers, activists of the Youth Congress and attend a number of programmes. By Rajul Nigam (ANI)
