New Delhi/Kolkata, Sep 1 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday challenging the order of the Calcutta High Court asking it to launch a fresh investigation and register a murder case into the death of computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances near a railway track in Kolkata's Dumdum area in September 2007.

The investigating agnecy said a fresh probe was not required, as it had earlier conducted the detailed probe and arrived at the conclusion that the offence was made for abetment of suicide against Kolkata-based industrialist Ashok Todi and his relatives.

Earlier on May 28, Todi had moved the apex court challenging the Calcutta High Court's order directing the CBI to conduct a fresh probe into the death of Rizwanur.

The Calcutta High Court had on May 18 directed the CBI to start fresh investigation into Rahman's murder case.

The court had affirmed that the investigation is inadequate and asked the agency to start a fresh investigation in the case.

The court has also asked the CBI to submit its report within four months.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had granted bail to Ashok Todi and his brother Pradip Todi in connection with the case.

The apex court told the Todis to surrender their passports and not to move out of Kolkata without the prior permission of the CBI. They have also been prevented from communicating or influencing witnesses.

Ashok Todi and his two relatives-Pradip Todi and Anil Saraogi, Rizwanur's family friend Pappu and three Police Officers- Former Deputy Commissioner Ajoy Kumar, ACP Sukanti Chakraborty, Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das, have been accused of abetment to suicide, criminal intimidation and conspiracy by the CBI in connection with the death of Rizwanur.

Rizwanur's body was found on the railway tracks between Biddhanagar Road and Dum Dum Junction on September 21 last year, almost a month after his marriage to Todi's daughter Priyanka.

Though police is convinced that it was a case of suicide, Rizwanur's family members are not convinced and have moved the higher courts for a CBI inquiry. (ANI)
