London, Aug 31 (ANI): The International Cricket Council was informed more than a decade ago that Pakistan could be bowling no balls deliberately, according to former Test umpire Darrell Hair.
Hair was not surprised by the no-ball allegations surrounding Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif in the Fourth Test against England.
"It didn't shock me at all. When the International Cricket Council's anti-corruption unit was formed a decade ago they went around the world and spoke to all the leading umpires," The Sun quoted Hair, as saying.
"And they said there were concerns in tournaments in places like Sharjah that the Pakistanis were bowling (deliberate) no balls and wides. But they have not been able to get any proof," he said.
Hair also claimed comments made by fixer Mazhar Majeed, who was arrested and then bailed without charge as part of Scotland Yard's investigation, reinforced his belief Pakistan have long engaged in ball tampering.
He added: "I was never in any real doubt all sorts of shenanigans were going on, but unfortunately at the time I couldn't get the support of the ICC. There seemed to be a lack of a will to go down that road." (ANI)
