London, Aug 30 (ANI): England teen footballer Jack Wilshere, who made his international debut in the friendly against Hungary earlier this month, spent nearly 10 hours in a police cell after a girl was left with a broken elbow in an early morning brawl.
The girl (21) was punched repeatedly and kicked to the ground outside a swanky nightclub in Kensington, West London and her boyfriend was bashed in the face.
Wilshere, 18, was partying with three friends when trouble erupted, The Sun reports.
Police stopped a taxi leaving the scene and arrested the Arsenal midfielder and his friends, aged 18 to 22, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Paramedics took the injured pair to hospital. A police source said: "There was an ugly incident, mostly alcohol-fuelled."
Officers took Wilshere mugshot, fingerprints and a DNA sample and will study CCTV footage. The player and his friends were bailed until mid-October pending further inquiries.
Wilshere's spokesman confirmed he was arrested after a fracas.
A statement said: "The police have made it very clear that he is an important witness and played the role of peacemaker and is unlikely to face any charges. Jack will co-operate fully with the police investigation." (ANI)
