Watson snubs possibilities of his 'Hayden-Langer man love' with Katich

Sydney, Aug 28(ANI): Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has said that people would not see any man love between him and his opening partner Simon Katich, like former opening pair Matt Hayden and Justin Langer had.

Hayden and Langer were seen giving warm hugs and cheeky kisses on way to becoming Australia's greatest Test opening duo.

"We probably aren't as emotional as those two were, with our public shows of affection. But we've got a really strong inner bond (like Hayden and Langer)," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Watson, as saying.

"You're never going to see as much hugging as what you did with Matt Hayden and Justin Langer, so we won't be raising too many eyebrows in that regard," he added.

The 29-year-old said that he has had a good friendship with Katich, even before they ended up opening the batting together.

"We socialize as much as we possibly can. We know that deep down there's such a tight inner bond because of what we're doing, and trying to do. He's an integral part of who we are," Watson said.

Katich and Watson boast the second-best average for Australian openers in 20 Tests or more.

Their 54.95 an innings as a pair places them behind Bill Lawry and Bob Simpson.

They currently have 1099 runs together, with Hayden and Langer in front on 5655.

Watson further played down Shane Warne's suggestion that he is more suited for batting at No.5.

"I love where I'm batting now at the moment. It does really suit my personality in the game, which I never thought it did until I had the opportunity," Watson said.

"Batting with Katto is brilliant, you know exactly what you get from every single time he goes out to bat. He's relentless with his concentration and toughness," he added. (ANI)
