Schumacher says sorry to Barrichello for Hungarian Grand Prix squeeze

London , Fri, 27 Aug 2010 ANI

London, Aug.27 (ANI): Seven time world motor racing champion Michael Schumacher has texted Rubens Barrichello an apology for nearly running the Brazilian into the pit wall during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The incident, in which the seven-time world champion squeezed his former Ferrari team-mate on the start-finish straight as they battled for 10th place during the latter stages of the race, led stewards to hand Schumacher a 10-place grid penalty for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix.

Schumacher initially defended his actions but the subsequent outcry led him to express a rather half-hearted statement of regret the following day via his personal website.

According to the Daily Star, the Mercedes GP star simply said 'sorry' on the basis that it was not his intention to endanger Barrichello's life.

Williams driver Barrichello said: "I received a message from him today, an SMS.

"Somebody said to him that I was under the impression he had pushed me onto the wall, and he said it wasn't the case and he apologised for that. I just said 'thank you, no problem'. I accepted it, wished him a good weekend, life goes on." (ANI)
