Sydney, Aug 24(ANI): Australian skipper Ricky Ponting insists that he would not relinquish the No. 3 slot despite his slump in form.
Ponting has scored only one century in his last 18 innings at that spot, bringing down his average from a career-high 60 at the end of 2006 to 54.66.
The 35-year-old however said that he hopes to reestablish himself, and declared the past year as "one of those years where I've just got to look back and almost write it off",
"The great challenge for me now is if I'm averaging 54 ... then hopefully I can get that back up again. I want to push that back up again," The Age quoted Ponting, as saying.
"Batting at No. 3 and being a leader of the side, there's a lot of responsibility that comes back on me to be a consistent run-scorer and probably the last 12 months I haven't been that," he added.
He further said that opponents were now taking advantage of his injured elbow by switching to short-pitch bowling.
"I think they probably changed the way they bowl at me as a result of the start of last summer in Australia," Ponting said.
"I am probably getting a bit more short bowling now than I used to get as a result of getting hit on the elbow last year," he added. (ANI)
