Curfew hits normal life in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Mon, 23 Aug 2010 ANI

Srinagar, Aug 23 (ANI): Shops were shut and police personnel patrolled the streets as curfew continued affecting normal life in Srinagar on Monday.

Curfew was imposed after the All Parties Hurriyat Conference came out with a calendar a few days ago, which had days for shutdowns and protests marked.

Offices, schools and business establishments remained shut and vehicles were off the roads.

Local residents complained that due to the curfew many have not been able to buy eatables used during the month of Ramadan. curfew was initially imposed on June 30 in the region to stop demonstrations over a couple of protesters who died in police firing. It was lifted some days later, but was again imposed as fresh violence erupted.

The Kashmir Valley is witnessing a surge of violence that has led the authorities to impose frequent curfew restrictions in several parts of Kashmir. By Parvez Butt (ANI)
