Move from Queensland to NSW improved my game: Hauritz

Sydney, Sun, 22 Aug 2010 ANI

Sydney, Aug 22(ANI): Australian off-spinner Nathan Hauritz has confessed that he had left Queensland to join New South Wales (NSW) four years ago to improve himself as a player.

Since moving to NSW, Hauritz has established himself as Australia's first-choice spin bowler.

"I made the decision to improve myself as a player and as a person as well. I became pretty bitter in Queensland and I wasn't very constructive for the team's dynamics," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hauritz, as saying.

"Moving to Sydney had its challenges, but it has been fantastic. I played grade for the state's second XI and worked with the coaches, and it helped improve my game a lot."

"I was just thinking the other day that - touch wood - even if I didn't get the chance to play for Australia again, it was a great decision," he added.

The 28-year-old further said that skipper Ricky Ponting's public vote of confidence in him before the Ashes series was morale boosting, but added that he can't afford to take his place in the team for granted.

"It is comforting to know my captain has such confidence in me. The rest, though, is up to me. I have to get fit [after the injury], I have to train well and get back the consistency I had before I got injured," Hauritz said.

"I need to keep my confidence up, to keep working and to keep improving and learning," he added. (ANI)
