Japanese Foreign Minister meets Manmohan Singh, discuses nuke cooperation

New Delhi, Aug 21 (ANI): Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada, who is on a two-day visit of India, met the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, here on Saturday and is reported to have discussed plans for activating bilateral civil nuclear cooperation between the two countries.

 

The nuclear pact with India will allow Japan to export nuclear power generation technology and equipment to India.

 

Okada, who arrived here on Saturday, is also likely to talk about initiating a free trade pact with India.

 

The Japanese Foreign Minister will co-chair the Fourth Round of the India-Japan Strategic Dialogue along with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna later today.

 

The talks between Krishna and Okada will prepare the agenda for Dr Singh's Tokyo visit likely towards October-end. Katsuya Okada will hold a meeting with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia on Saturday evening.

 

Okada will also meet Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh on Sunday afternoon before flying back to Japan. (ANI)
