London, Aug 17(ANI): England batsman Jonathan Trott has said that his team is far from concerned over Australian skipper Ricky Ponting's comments that a 5-0 whitewash for his side is "absolutely possible" when the two teams meet in the Ashes series.
"I don't know Ricky Ponting that well, I don't know his character or what he would be meaning behind saying stuff like that," The Telegraph quoted Trott, as saying.
"If I were to say something like that I'd find it would put pressure on me and the team more than if we just go about our business like I know we will."
"The thing is, I've only played one game against them and they wanted to win that game, but that didn't work out too well for them and it worked out well for us and that is all I can really say," he added.
The England team is currently looking forward to winning their seventh successive Test match during this week's third Test against Pakistan at The Oval.
They have lost only one since winning the Ashes at the same ground in August last year.
Ponting had earlier praised the England team for its crushing wins against Pakistan in the ongoing Test series, but predicted that the effect of playing the Ashes in different conditions would be significant.
"I think you have to be [impressed]. They've played some good cricket for quite a while now. A lot of their middle-of-the-road sort of players, experience-wise, have really stepped up in [Jimmy] Anderson and [Stuart] Broad," Ponting said.
"They certainly have bowled well and, by the sounds of things, they've had great conditions to bowl in as well. We'll have a different set of conditions and a different ball when they come out here and I'm sure our guys will acquit themselves really well," he added.
When asked whether Australia could repeat its 5-0 drubbing of England in the last home Ashes series, Ponting said: "It's absolutely possible - there's no reason why not."
The 35-year-old further admitted that his team had made some mistakes in the last Ashes series in England, which probably cost them the series.
"We know now that we're a more experienced and, probably, a better team now than we were then. You put that together [with] playing in our own conditions and we hope to win this series and win it well," Ponting added.
The first of the five Ashes Tests will be held at The Gabba in Brisbane from November 25 to 29.
It will be followed by Tests in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
Two Twenty20 clashes and a seven-match one-day series have also been scheduled between Australia and England. (ANI)
