Lahore, Aug.17 (ANI): Former Pakistan coach and captain Javed Miandad has criticised the idea of having specialist coaches in the team.
Miandad, who is currently serving as PCB's director-general, said he does not support the idea of having multiple coaches in the team, as it creates confusion in the squad.
"I believe there should be just one head coach who should have a strong cricketing background and be able to guide the players in every department. Having different coaches for batting, bowling or fielding will only cause confusion in the team and undermine the authority of the head coach," The Daily Times quoted Miandad, as saying.
Following Pakistan's shambolic performance in the first two Tests against England, some former players advised the PCB to appoint specialist batting and fielding coaches.
Miandad stressed that the international stage was not a place where players needed tuition to address their problems.
"I don't think the national team is the place for players to learn something or take coaching. I just feel that there should be one head coach who is a good administrator and motivator," Miandad said.
"Once you are selected for the national team you are expected to perform as a professional. A coach can only fine-tune a player," he added.
Praising debutant Zulqarnain Haider and off spinner Saeed Ajmal for their brave 100-run partnership for the eighth wicket in the second Test at Edgbaston, Miandad said Pakistani batsmen must learn to value their wicket and occupy the crease.
"They are giving away their wicket too easily. I think Zulqarnain Haider and Saeed Ajmal showed in the second innings of the second Test how you should fight and play," he said. (ANI)
