PM to visit Leh on Tuesday

New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will go on a daylong trip on Tuesday to Leh, which has been hit by cloudburst and flash floods that claimed around 200 lives and left over 400 injured.The Prime Minister will visit some of the hospitals where the injured are undergoing treatment.

 

Alongwith senior officials Dr. Singh will review the relief and rehabilitation measures.

 

Dr. Singh in his Independence Day address mentioned the calamity in Leh and assured the people of the affected region that government will do everything possible for rehabilitating them.

 

He also conveyed his condolences to those who lost their family members in the calamity.

 

"In this hour of grief, the whole country stands with the people of Ladakh," he said.

 

The Prime Minister had earlier announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured from the PM's National Relief Fund. (ANI)
