New Delhi/Srinagar, Aug 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh unfurled the national flag and addressed the nation from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on the occasion of the 64th Independence Day today.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in New Delhi especially around Red Fort.
Sixty CCTV cameras were installed and NSG sharp shooters deployed on the rooftops of high-rise buildings near the Mughal monument.
Strict vigil was being maintained at key installations like Parliament complex, airport, railway stations and bus terminals.
Delhi borders, however, were not sealed unlike the past years. But random checking of vehicles and individuals is being done to avoid any untoward incident.
Northern Railway had withhold the train services between Old Delhi and Shahadra Railway Stations between 6 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. today.
Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir, elaborate security arrangements were made in and around Srinagar's Bakshi stadium, where the main Independence Day function was held.
A shoe was thrown at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the Independence Day function here.
The situation here continues to be tense and restrictions on people's movement are on in Srinagar and other main towns of the Kashmir valley today. (ANI)
