Pressure on out of form Cook to perform

London , Sun, 15 Aug 2010 ANI

London, Aug 15 (ANI): Out of form England opener Alastair Cook has been warned that his position as vice-captain will not keep his position in the squad safe if he fails to perform.

Cook, who has scored only 100 runs in seven Test knocks this summer, will come to know about his fate when chief selector Geoff Miller announces his 12-man squad for third Test against Pakistan at the Oval.

Skipper Andrew Strauss is adamant that he wants Cook to remain as his opening partner, but others aren't so sure, News of the World reports.

Former captain Nasser Hussain claimed that Cook's technique at Edgbaston was "shot to bits".

Cook said: "I'm still enjoying it. As soon as you stop enjoying it you stop having that extra fight to do the extra 10 minutes in the nets or that extra run on the treadmill. I haven't quite scored the runs I'd have liked, but these things happen, don't they?

"I've faced some decent attacks on some bowling friendly wickets and the new ball can nick you off. I never have cold sweats about anything to be fair. My Test record for England is decent. There's always room for improvement but if you wake up feeling intimidated, you're not going to perform." (ANI)
