Gadkari criticizes Manmohan Singh for corruption in Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Gadkari on Friday criticized Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the alleged corruption that has plagued the preparations for the Commonwealth Games (CWG).

Gadkari urged the Prime Minister not to remain a mute spectator to the rampant financial irregularities.

"Unfortunately our Prime Minister I sometimes feel that he has eyes but he cannot see, he has ears but he does not listen, has a mouth but does not speak. He reminds me of Gandhiji's (three monkeys). I would request him to come forward and order an inquiry and bring it forth to the people of the country," Gadkari told a news conference here where BJP and its allies Janata Dal (United) and Shiv Sena released a report titled 'Mishandling, Mismanagement and Corruption in Commonwealth Games'.

He said a privilege motion should be moved against Sports Minister M S Gill for insulting the Lok Sabha during a debate in the House earlier this week when he suggested opposition MPs could take recourse to the Right to Information Act to get their queries answered.

He also said budget overruns witnessed in the various projects for the Commonwealth Games could have been avoided through better monitoring.

Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav said the loot and superficial development works in the name of the Commonwealth Games was happening in a country where the majority of people were poor.

" The protest against corruption should be taken from Delhi to each and every village. This corruption has spoiled them so much that they are having fun without giving a damn," he added.

Following a plea by the Union Sports Ministry, CGOC had earlier terminated the services of its Joint Director General T S Darbari and Deputy Director General Sanjay Mohindroo in connection with alleged financial irregularities during the Queen's Baton Relay Run ceremony in London.

The Central Vigilance Commission had alleged irregularities in several Commonwealth Games related-works being carried out by civic and construction agencies. (ANI)
