London, Aug.13 (ANI): Veteran Hollywood actor Kirk Douglas has appealed to Muslims to speak out and condemn the 9/11 terrorists, after admitting he was "confused" by plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero in New York's Manhattan District.
The Hollywood legend said it would be "painful" for the families of the 2,700 people who died in the World Trade Center attack to see the mosque coming up close to where the two twin World Trade Towers once stood.
However, he also said that it would be unfair to punish all Muslims for the actions of a slim minority.
His comments appear on his MySpace.com page, the Daily Express reports.
Muslim activist Feisal Abdul Rauf is behind plans to build a 67 million pound mosque and an Islamic convention centre just a few blocks from the site of the World Trade Centre.
The project cleared a major hurdle recently when New York City's Landmarks Commission voted against land-marking an old Burlington Coat Factory building now on the site, giving developers the go-ahead to demolish it. (ANI)
