London, Aug 10 (ANI): Renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking has announced that in order to continue the human race, we must move to new planets.
He warned that if we don't colonise space within the next 200 years, the human race would become extinct.
"We shall need great care and judgment to negotiate them all successfully," The Daily Express quoted him as talking to website Big Think about the 1963 Cuban missile crisis.
"But I'm an optimist. If we can avoid disaster for the next two centuries, our species should be safe, as we spread into space," he added.
Professor Hawking also warned that population rise and limited resources on Earth meant life was becoming increasingly dangerous and the only way to build upon the progress made over the last century would be to look out to the rest of the galaxy.
Earlier this year, in a series for television's Discovery Channel, Professor Hawking warned that humans should be wary about making contact with alien life forms because they might not always be friendly. (ANI)
