Suspected Maoist Fatik Soren arrested in West Bengal

West Midnapore/New Delhi, Aug 7 (ANI): Acting on a tip-off, the security personnel arrested a suspected Maoist radical from West Bengal's West Midnapore District on Friday.

 

The apprehended youth, identified as Fatik Soren, is believed to have been involved in several cases of murder and instigating violence in the area.he Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party nabbed him during a routine combing operation of a village in the District.

 

Soren's arrest comes hot on the heels after Khokan Mahto, a local activist of the Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA), who was taken into custody by the security personnel.

 

Meanwhile, West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Bhupinder Singh met senior officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday to discuss combat strategies to curtail the Maoist insurgency.

 

Among the various issues addressed in the meetings was the urgent need for an upgrade in the infrastructure support system and deployment of security forces.

 

"We discussed about our additional battalion deployment and how to go about the operations. We also discussed on the infrastructure aspects," said Singh.

 

Revealing the planned joint operations of the federal and regional security forces, Singh further said the senior officials had been assessing the situation to formulate effective measures top restore normalcy in Maoist affected areas.

 

"Yes, we sought the Ministry of Home Affairs decision on deployment of CRPF. As for the People's Committee against Police Atrocities, we will arrest whenever we come across those associated with it," he added. (ANI)
