New Delhi, Aug 5 (ANI): Vidya Stokes was on Thursday elected President of Hockey India defeating her rival former national captain Pargat Singh by a big margin of 41-21 in the much-awaited polls.
Eighty-three-year-old Stokes was fighting the elections after defying the age limitation guidelines set up by the Government.
For the Secretary General's post, Stokes' close ally Narinder Batra defeated Gunjam Haider of Hockey Arunachal 41-18.
The results will be officially announced later as per the directives of the Delhi High Court.
Earlier on July 28, the Bombay High Court came down heavily on the Central Government for not complying with its order regarding recognition of Hockey India and issued an order to stay the elections for three weeks.
Hockey India, however, moved the Supreme Court on July 30 against the orders and managed to vacate the stay. It also got a green signal from the apex court to hold its elections. (ANI)
