Floodwaters continue to ravage Punjab

Ferozepur , Mon, 26 Jul 2010 ANI

Ferozepur (Punjab), July 26 (ANI): Floodwaters continue to wreak havoc across Punjab.

The DRD Nath post of Border Security Force (BSF) in Punjab's Ferozepur District has been submerged by floodwaters, after several breaches occurred in the Phida drain bridge near Gajniwala village.

According to a senior official, the border tracks have been damaged by the water.

"Damage cannot be ascertained until the water recedes, but as we have seen fencing is not much damaged, but border track has been damaged at one or two places. The water has cut the border track. When water will recede, we will fill it," said Rajesh Gupta, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF.

The fencing along the International Border with Pakistan has also sustained some damage though it has not been washed away by the flood.

Nearby villages such as Gajniwala are the worst hit as they are submerged under knee-deep water, and the crops have been damaged severely.

Reportedly, the state has incurred losses to the tune of almost Rs 6.5 billion, including damage to crops, property and roads. By Sarabjeet (ANI)
