Silver Ferns captain tells family to skip Delhi Commonwealth Games

Waikata Bay (New Zealand), July 25 (ANI): Silver Ferns netball captain Casey Williams has told family and friends not to attend the Delhi Commonwealth Games this October.

Twenty-five-year-old Williams has said that while she will compete in Delhi, she doesn't want her loved ones to travel there due to fears of terrorist bombings.

Her teammates-Temepara George and Leana de Bruin - have also cancelled plans to have family join them in India.

"My family were going to India but I've told them to stay at home. We, as players, have protection but they, as public, don't. They've said fair enough, they'll go to the world championships in Singapore the year after instead," The Sunday News quoted Williams, as saying.

"I do think about the security side and I don't think Delhi's the kind of place where you meet up in the middle of town for coffee. But it's not going to stop me from going, I don't have any issues travelling to India and I'll be there with bells on," she added.

An extended 17-player Silver Ferns squad begins a four-day training camp in Auckland tomorrow, with national coach Ruth Aitken announcing her final team of 12 for the Commonwealth Games on Friday. (ANI)
