Pak's current pace attack best since 'Wasim-Waqar' era?

London, July 23(ANI): Journalists covering the second Test between Pakistan and Australia being played at Headingley reckon that Pakistan's current bowling attack is the best pace combination since the retirement of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

After three innings with the ball - the two at Lord's and the one on the first day at Headingley - Pakistan's pace trio of Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Gul has taken 23 wickets between them from 146 overs.

"We saw at the Lord's in the first Test that Pakistan bowlers are capable of bowling a side out, but we never thought they would skittle out such a powerful batting lineup under the three-figure mark," The News quoted Jesse Hogan, cricket correspondent of 'The Age', as saying.

Hogan, who is a self-confessed fan of Akram, also said that he could see glimpses of the great all-rounder in Aamer.

"Wasim has been my favourite cricketer. The way he bowled during his career was just marvellous. I see glimpses of that quality in Aamer. Since he is inexperienced at times he gets carried away. His bowling in the second innings at Lord's was not that impressive," he added.

Senior freelance journalist Qamar Ahmad said that the attack would serve the country for years to come.

"They have combined well and seem to be the answer to Pakistan's long standing question as to who would replace the Ws," Ahmad said. (ANI)
