Kolkata, July 22 (ANI): Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the ruling Left Front Government in West Bengal is trying to tarnish her image ahead of the Assembly polls in the State.
Banerjee said the Gyaneshwari Express train mishap took place just prior to the civic polls of Kolkata and it was man-made with an aim to mar her image.
"On May 30 Kolkata civic polls took place and on 28 Gyaneshwari Express mishap took place. I went to the spot to know who was behind it and now Central Bureau of Investigation is probing it," said Banerjee while talking to the media during a Martyr's day rally organised by her party on Wednesday.
Banerjee said that the Left Front was now making all attempts to retain its hold on power a bit longer, but it would be too far fetched.
"CPI (M) no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to come to power. I have suffered a lot. I can say my identity is not that I am Railway Minister, but I am a member of an ordinary Bengali family," she added.
The derailment of the Howrah-Kurla Gyaneshwari Express on May 28 by suspected Maoists took a huge toll of innocent civilian lives. (ANI)
