Lucknow, July 18 (ANI): The Lucknow police raided a major milk unit here in an attempt to clampdown the spurious milk-selling business rampant in the region.
Suspecting that the unit distributed adulterated stocks, the police seized large quantities of milk and sent them for forensic analysis on Saturday.
However, it is not yet clear whether the milk unit was distributing spurious stocks, as officials maintained that the authenticity of the milk could only be ascertained after the tests.
"Milk distribution is a sensitive matter. In the recent past, we have received several complaints of such units selling and distributing spurious and synthetic milk. We have conducted this raid as part of our total clampdown on these illicit businesses," said Anil Chourasia, Additional City Magistrate of Lucknow.
"We have collected many samples of milk, which will be sent for forensic tests to determine their purity. If any adulteration is found in the samples, stringent action would be taken against the guilty," he added.
Chourasia further said it is quite possible that the quality of milk has deteriorated due to heavy rains and humid weather.
Reports of adulterated milk have repeatedly surfaced in the recent past across the nation, fuelling a furor over the dipping safety standards of dairy products in India. (ANI)
