Bharat Scouts and Guides receive Silver Elephant Awards from President

New Delhi, July 15 (ANI): Damodar Sharma alongwith 30 other adult leaders of the Bharat Scouts and Guides received Silver Elephant awards from President Pratibha Patil on Thursday.

 

This is the highest gallantry award for the Scouts and Guides in the country.

 

'Its a proud moment for all of us, its really a big thing to visit the Rashtrapati Bhavan itself, and for us we were invited here. And getting this honour from the Presdent of India, is like a dream come true.' said Sharma.

 

Formed in 1950, The Bharat Scouts and Guides is a premier organisation of scouting. It is a non-formal education movement with training methods based on law and promises and suited to various age groups.

 

'The mission of scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law to help build a better world, and that is what I have been committed to all my life', said Sharma.

 

The Scouts and Guides movement is spread across the country, There are over 25 lakh scouts and over 18 lakh guides in the country. (ANI)
