New Delhi , Sun, 11 Jul 2010 ANI

New Delhi, July 11 (ANI): Union Sports Minister M. S. Gill on Sunday inaugurated a tennis stadium for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

The stadium has a capacity of 5,015 people and it has been built at a cost of Rs 660 million.

Built in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex, the stadium has been named after Ramanathan Krishnan, only Indian player to make it to the semi-finals of the Wimbledon twice.

"I am happy to inaugurate the stadium. All India Tennis Association (AITA), Khanna Ji and other members have put in lots of efforts for it. Now we have a stadium where we can conduct the Commonwealth Games, and even better games," Gill said.

He added that his dream is to see Indian tennis players winning international grand slams for the country.

"My dream is that as Ramanathan Krishnan was the semi-finalist of Wimbledon twice, Devvarman (Somdev Devvarman) is playing pretty well, so other players should also come forward and help India win the international grand slam tournaments," Gill added. (ANI)
