Melbourne, Jul 11 (ANI): Famous doubles partners from Australia, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde, were into inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in the United States along with seven other pairs.
Woodbridge and Woodforde known as the 'Woodies' were inducted along with women's doubles partners Gigi Fernandez and Natasha Zvereva.
"This is an amazing day for the Woodies. I don't know if any of us said we're just going to be doubles players. We just excelled on the doubles court a little more than we did on the singles. As much as we would have loved to win more in the singles titles, we did in doubles," Woodforde said.
Woodbridge and Woodforde combined for 61 world tour championships from 1991-2000, a record they held, until it was matched by American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan earlier this year, FOX Sports reports.
"I think we won our fourth tournament we played together. It was close on average to every fourth tournament we won the next 10 years. That's pretty good business," Woodbridge said. .
"I figured if I could team up with Mark we'd do well together. We did better than well, we did bloody great," Woodbridge said.
The Woodies won a total of 11 grand slam titles during their ten-year career including a record six Wimbledon crowns.
They also won Olympic gold at the 1996 Atlanta games and were a part of Australia's successful Davis Cup side in 1999. (ANI)
