Waqar yet to finalise openers for first Test against Australia

London, July 10 (ANI): With just a couple of days to go for the first Test against Australia at Lord's, Pakistan coach Waqar Younis has plenty to think about the batting order, particularly the opening slots.

Pakistan tested Imran Farhat, Yasir Hameed, as well as new rookie Azhar Ali and Umar Amin during the two day warm up game against Leicestershire, and their performance has given plenty of food for thought before he finalises the final eleven for Tuesday's encounter against Ricky Ponting's men, who would be vying for revenge following the humiliating 2-0 loss in the T20 series.

The practice match saw some good performances from all the top four batsmen barring Imran Farhat.

Left-hand batsman Salman Butt, who is certain to open the innings against the Kangaroos at Lord's, continued his good form and scored a composed half-century.

Others like Yasir Hameed, Azhar Ali and young and highly rated Umar Amin also impressed with their individual performances.

However, Shoaib Malik, who is expected to tackle the Australian bowlers in the middle order, continued his woeful form and was trapped lbw for just 10 runs providing left-handed Amin to push his claims for a place in the Test side.

He stroked a fluent 51 from 70 balls, with eight fours, to follow the 73 he made in the second innings against Kent two weeks ago, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. (ANI)
