Sydney, Jul 6 (ANI): Cricket Australia has named pacer Peter George, one of the tallest fast bowlers, as a replacement for injured Ryan Harris for the Test series against Pakistan.
George, who stands at 203 centimetres, the same height as Bruce Reid and a full 8cm taller than Glenn McGrath, represented Australia A against Sri Lanka A taking 11 wickets in two four-day matches at an average of 15.27.
George measured 202cm at the start of the last Australian summer and, at 23, some within Cricket Australia are wondering whether he is still growing.
The opening Test of the series against Pakistan is at Lord's, starting July 13, with the second match beginning on July 21 at Headingley, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
The Leeds Test could be the venue for George's debut. He has picked up 67 wickets at 28.46 in 18 first-class matches.
"Peter George had an excellent Shield season last year and was called up to the New Zealand tour earlier in the year where he impressed around the squad," chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said.
"He has followed that with a very impressive bowling performance for Australia A against Sri Lanka A ... and we are confident he will perform well at international level should he get the opportunity on this tour," he said. (ANI)
