New Delhi, June 30 (ANI): With the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remaining tensed, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Wednesday called for an emergency meeting to review the situation in the state.
The meeting is expected to attend by the senior Home Ministry, intelligence and Defence Ministry officials.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Defence Minister A K Antony will also take part in the meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at 5 p.m. at Prime Minister's 7 Race Course Road residence.
The meeting will take stock of the situation and is expected to chalk out the way ahead.
Earlier in the day, to curb the spread of violence, the Jammu and Kashmir Government brought more areas under curfew in South Kashmir region.
The South Kashmir region has experienced a series of violent incidents after three youths were killed in CRPF firing.
Additional contingents of paramilitary and police units have been deployed to ensure the effective enforcement of the curfew.
A total of eleven people have been killed in firing incidents involving security forces in the past three weeks.
Life continues to remain disrupted in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley in response to a strike.
Shops and business markets, government offices and educational institutions were closed and transport was off the roads.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah last evening made an appeal for peace vowing to ensure return of normalcy soon. (ANI)
