Sydney, Jun 23 (ANI): Wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who was recalled to the one-day team, has also been named to replace injured Brad Haddin in Australia's 14-man squad for next month's two-Test series against Pakistan in England.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch said Paine had been in impressive form at the state and one-day international levels.
"We feel he has the skills and temperament to do extremely well in Test cricket for Australia. It is a well-deserved opportunity which we are sure Tim will make the most of during the series against Pakistan," Hilditch said.
The two Tests against Pakistan will take place at Lords (13-17 July) and Headingley (21-25 July).
Haddin said he's disappointed to miss the series after still feeling discomfort from an elbow tendon injury.
"It is extremely disappointing to miss any match for your country and especially frustrating in this situation where I can do everything but pick up a cricket bat," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Haddin, as saying on Wednesday.
"I have been extremely aggressive in the treatment process of this tendon injury doing everything I possibly could to play in the upcoming Test matches against Pakistan.
"Unfortunately yesterday I hit about six balls and could still feel some pain. After seeing the specialist in Sydney today he has advised me that the best course of action is to take a slow and steady approach to getting it right," he said. (ANI)
