London, Mon, 21 Jun 2010 ANI

London, June 21: The smell of gunpowder and the passion of a battle was once again seen on the streets of Belgium as some military enthusiasts re-enacted the Battle of Waterloo.

As many as 3,000 military enthusiasts from across Europe, armed with 50 heavy guns and supported by 150 cavalry participated in the reconstruction of five scenes of the June 18, 1815 which battle saw Napoleon Bonaparte defeated by the Duke of Wellington.

It was organised as a rehearsal for the 200th anniversary of the battle in 2015.

The hot Belgian summer established similar conditions to what the armies faced 195 years ago.

Napoleon's defeat in this battle marked the end of his military adventures, and the Lion's Mound was built to monumentalise the moment in history.

But it seems that younger generations are hostile.

According to a young Belgian, the battle was triggered by "Napoleon and his friends", and the winners were.... "the Flemish," reports the Telegraph.(ANI)
