Srinagar , Sun, 20 Jun 2010 ANI

Srinagar, June 20 (ANI): Both factions of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) have given a call to observe shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday to protest against the killing of a youth in a fresh incident of police firing.

Chairman of the hardline faction, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and Chairman of the moderate faction, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, have issued separate statements asking their respective supporters to observe a shutdown.

The APHC described police firing as Jammu and Kashmir Government's effort to systematically kill youths.

Violence broke out on Sunday, as an agitated mob tried to set a mobile bunker of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on fire in Noorbagh area of the Valley.

The incident prompted security personnel to open fire, resulting in the death of Javid Ahmad Malla. Four others were also injured in the firing.

Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had urged the Omar Abdullah Government to maintain restraint while dealing with demonstrators.

Meanwhile, CPI (M) state Secretary, M. Y. Tarigami has demanded to bring all those involved in these killings to the books. (ANI)
