Sydney, Jun 19 (ANI): Australian pacer Doug Bollinger has vowed to target England captain Andrew Strauss in the upcoming one-day international series in order to strike an early Ashes blow for Australia.
Just as Glenn McGrath used to have a stranglehold over Mike Atherton during the 1990s, Bollinger wants to do likewise to Strauss, England's leading run-scorer in last year's Ashes series.
Australian bowlers target the opposition captain in the belief that an out-of-form skipper would have a negative effect on his team's morale.
"Obviously you have to start well against the openers and he's the type of player that can get you down if you are bowling badly to him," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Bollinger, as saying.
"If I get him out that's a pretty solid way to show that we are here to go well and knock the captain over," he said.
Ryan Harris, Clint McKay and uncapped 19-year-old Josh Hazlewood, who is likely to play only a minor role this series, are the other quicks in the touring party.
"I'm happy to take the challenge up and we all mesh pretty well the bowlers, so we can all feed off each other's success," Bollinger said.
"There's no extra pressure. It's enjoyment really at having the extra responsibility while playing for my country. And if I get called the spearhead that's probably a bonus for me but I just go out and do my things and get as many wickets as I can," he added. (ANI)
