Maharashtra police chief wants no pressure on Pune blast investigation team

Pune, Wed, 16 Jun 2010 ANI

Pune, June 16 (ANI): Following a Mumbai court's decision to grant bail to Abdul Samad Bhatkal, a key accused in the Pune blast, Maharashtra's Director General of Police, D. Sivanandan, has said the probe team should not be pressurized.

Talking to reporters here, Sivanandan said: "We should not pressurize them so that something wrong happens again. One mistake has already happened another mistake should not happen. First mistake was the terrorist attack and the second mistake would be the wrong investigation, which should not happen. They have to do the right investigation at the right time even though it is taking some time," said D. Sivandandan.

"The ATS has to study the Pune blast case scientifically and collect evidence to identify the group behind the attack", he added.

Sleuths began tracking the movements of Bhatkal after scanning the CCTV footage of the blast site.

Bhatkal had moved to Dubai 12 days after the explosion and had returned to India on May 24 after his visa expired. Bhatkal was arrested on the same day in Karnataka.

However, due to lack of evidence by the investigation team, Mumbai Session's court allowed him to walk out freely.

The Pune blast, which killed seventeen people and wounded at least 57, was seen as the first major attack on India since the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. (ANI)
