London, Jun 16 (ANI): Ace golfer Tiger Woods has backed goalkeeper Robert Green, who made a horrendous mistake that cost England victory in their opening World Cup game against underdogs USA.
Golf's world No.1 watched the 1-1 draw with the USA, and admitted: "Our goal was a gift but I hope the goalkeeper gets another chance to play - we all make mistakes."
Earlier, Green had admitted that he let his country down.
A family friend told how Green spoke out his heart to dad Steven and mum Jacqueline after his gaffe, The Sun reports.
Green telephoned his parents after his World Cup howler, and told hem: "I feel like I've let the country down"
"I'm going to make you and England proud. I was upset about it, but the important thing is to come back from this and do well in the rest of the tournament.
"I'm not going to let everyone down, I'm not going to let my country down. I'm really fed up as I'd been doing so well in training and was chuffed to be picked for a match.
"But that's football - everything can change in a second. It was just one of those things that happens," Green said.
The friend said Green was determined to pick himself up and help England win the World Cup.
Green's astonishing mistake cost the Three Lions two vital points in their Group C opener against the US. (ANI)
