New Delhi, Tue, 15 Jun 2010 ANI

New Delhi, June 15 (ANI): World chess champion Viswanathan Anand unveiled a mobile science lab, portable learning solution, that integrates science in classrooms in New Delhi on Tuesday .

The Mobile Science Lab for schools, a portable laboratory, revolutionizes the way science is taught and learnt, is an innovation of National Institute for Information Technology (NIIT).

NIIT officials said the project aimed to target students in the 6th-10th classes.

"Right now the target classes are classes 6th-10th. So we have captured the experiences, experiments and concepts that can be taught in schools from class 6th to class 10th," said Sanjiv R Pande, President, School Learning Solutions, NIIT.

"Its a NCERT experimentation solution, so, it will go into multiple boards. It will go to into both private and government schools," he added.

Anand termed the Mobile Science Lab as an "exciting product."

"It's a very exciting product because it both allows the students to answer the questions by themselves and to pursue their curiosity and I think it will do the same for teachers," Anand said.

"Teachers want to explain something but they know that the students take in much more when they show it...then you know when you don't have to go to the lab then you just quickly show it on the mobile science lab and for that reason I think this will be a huge success and specially exciting for the rural areas," he added.

The NIIT has launched the product in association with Fourier systems, a leader in compact portable data logging devices and accessories for the education market.

The solution, which is customized for use in Indian schools, covers a wide range of subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Sciences.

The product is expected to foster students' higher order thinking skills like question posing, inquiry, scientific thinking and enhances students' confidence. (ANI)
