Kolkata, June 9 (ANI): Football fans in Kolkata are snapping up jerseys of their favourite teams ahead of the World Cup.

Some enterprising traders are making brisk business by selling jerseys of the world cup participating teams.

Sandeep Sarkar, a fan of the Argentine team, said since he could not afford to fly to South Africa for the soccer carnival, he would cheer his favourite team wearing its traditional blue and white stripes from his home.

"I am a big fan of Argentina team. I have come here to buy the jersey of Argentina. Since we are not going to South Africa to see the match, so, I along with my friends will cheer the team wearing their jersey," Sarkar said.

Local businessmen said their sales are picking up and expect the windfall to continue for next couple of weeks.

"All though the World Cup is yet to start but the sale of jerseys has already increased. The sale of the Argentina and Brazil jerseys are very high and we have imported jerseys of 100 rupees to 500 and the cost of a local jerseys is 80 rupees," said Samsur Jamal, a seller. (ANI)
