Perth, June 8 (ANI): Union Minister of Power Sushilkumar Shinde, who is leading an Indian delegation to Australia, today met Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett and discussed various issues related to Indian power sector including generation, transmission and distribution.
Shinde made a special mention of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, the flagship programme for rural electrification which was taking India ahead.
He also pointed out the resilience of Indian economy during the global slowdown under the leadership of Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
Shinde discussed the setting up of the Technical Training Institutes in collaboration with Australia where Australian know-how would be used to train Indian students who could work in the mining sectors of the two countries.
Barnett was positive on India-Australia strategic co-operation and pointed out that Western Australia is rich in natural resources.
Earlier, Shinde addressed the 1st Australia-India Energy and Minerals Forum and also held bilateral talks on various issues related to co-operation in mineral and energy sector. (ANI)
