Bangalore, June 8 (ANI): A team of 24 doctors operated on conjoined Nigerian twins, Peace and Patience Adugbe, on Monday and successfully separated them despite their complex internal anatomy.
Addressing a press conference here, doctors said that the condition of both children was stable.
"They both are doing very well. The operation went very well and we now have Peace and Patience with all their structures, to lead a normal life," said Ashley D'cruz, the Director, Narayana Hrudayalaya Women and Child Institute.
"The children are now being observed in the pediatric intensive care for close monitoring and care. This surgery could be a revolutionary path breaker for high end specialized surgical procedures in children," Ashley D'cruz added.
The eight-month-old twins shared a common gut from the duodenum to the end of the small intestine. Each baby now has adequate small intestine and normal colons.
Their parents are happy with the success of the operation. (ANI)
