London, June 3(ANI): World No. 1 Roger Federer, who crashed out of the French Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, will take part in next week's Gerry Weber Open in preparations for Wimbledon.
The grass-court tournament has had a significant role in Federer's reign at Wimbledon, as he won it four times in a row from 2003 and went on to triumph at the All England Club on each occasion.
The 29-year-old will now be hoping that despite his worst Grand Slam performance in seven years, he will make a strong comeback in London.
"This gives me the chance to take a breather and to have a couple more days to prepare for the grass-court season," The Independent quoted Federer, as saying.
"You just take the defeat as it is. You don't think of the consequences. Then you move on," he added.
Federer's streak of 23 successive appearances in Grand Slam semi-finals ended when he lost to Sweden's Robin Soderling 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 at the Rolland Garros.
The six-time Wimbledon champion, will be the favourite for the tournament, but he may not go there as World No 1, as Rafael Nadal will claim the spot if he wins at Paris.
Federer insisted that he would take any dethronement in his stride.
"Losing the top spot wouldn't be the end of the world. If I do lose it I'm sure I'll get it back soon and that would be an even better feeling," Federer said. (ANI)
