Jaipur, June 1 (ANI): Dams drying up due to intense heat in Rajasthan are causing severe water crisis in Jaipur.
In the past few years, ground water level in Rajasthan is going down. The State is facing a drought like situation. 99 percent dams of Rajasthan are completely dry. Major dams like Ramgargh Dam, Mahi Dam and Bisalpur Dam have hardly any water left.
"Since last two-three years, we have not had enough rainfall. These dams get water only when there is rain. Without rain there is no water in dams," said Om Prakash Sharma, a resident.
"Dams are empty because last year also there was a drought, and this year also there is a serious drought. The condition of water in dams is really bad," said M S Rathore, an environmentalist.
Rajasthan has around 118 major and medium sized dams and today most of them are completely dry.
Environmentalists feel that major dams of Rajasthan have a capacity to store water for two to three years, if these are filled during monsoon with proper planning. (ANI)
